Dum-dum-da dum

10 DAYS

Yesterday we were able to get to Lynn City Hall before they closed and get our marriage license! We are both such saps we even took pictures of ourselves.
Rob has today off and is able to go and get all our travel documents which are in.
My God, this is getting exciting. And scary. And nervous. And giddy.
Hold on a moment. I need to rock back and forth and breathe. I'll give you a topic while you wait. The eggplant is neither an egg nor a plant. Discuss.

Bachelorette #2

A wonderful time was had at my bridesmaid Sharrie's home in Wakefield. Great friends, excellent food, delicious libations, and generous and thoughtful gifts. Actually my feelings can best be described in song. I've taken the liberty of butchering "At the Copa" by Barry Manilow. Sing along if you like. If you think you might be offended now's the time to stop reading.

His name was Christopher
He was a showboy
With a smile so very bright
And jeans, my God they're tight!

There was no meringue
There was no cha cha
Instead he danced and spun around
and our jaws all hit the ground

The jeans soon came off
And we did not scoff
Between the tattoo and the g-string
we nearly all collapsed

At the stripper
The stripper named Christopher
Buns and agility were his true proclivity
We all had fun....
Music and strippers....what could be hipper
flipped Bradford over....bent over Michael like Rover
there was some thigh play....it sure made my day
Kara showed dark side...no one could hide....
Many slapped his buns.....he made lots of ones...
Sharrie got straddled....we all were dazzled....

What a fun night.
Sharrie, Michael, Kaitlyn, Sarah, Heather, Michelle, Jules, Kara, Deidre, Courtney, and Katie.... you guys are the BEST Thank you so very much
Pictures to be added shortly, I promise.

bachelorette party

We are at 18 days folks. Truly the countdown is on.
But let's back up for a moment to May 20. Eddie, the man of honor picks me up in Tewksbury. We go and have lunch, and then to a movie. Poseidon. Not bad, good special effects. We motor down to Angus' home in Dorchester. Upon arrival, I am met by Joe, Dimitri, Tom, Tony, and Gary. Much fun ensues, as we sample the delicious food that Angus has prepared. There are multi tiered levels of cake stands, brimming with quesidillas, mushrooms, chicken wings, shrimp with cocktail sauce, and pastry creme filled swans - which I find that Angus has made himself. I am nearly speechless at the love these guys have for me, to make my upcoming wedding a memorable day. Then it's time to open presents. Knowing most of the readers of this blog, let us just say that we now have more "marital aids" than we will ever think, or had even thought, of ever using. You see, in Europe, where Angus is from, the "shower" is not for getting gifts, it is for gag gifts and such. And boy what gifts! When you have to ask how you "use" one of your gifts.... well... wow. As all this is going on, Rob is off at his bachelor party, eating Chinese food and going to a comedy club. I digress. So off we go to an.... "alternative" bar, where we drink many delicious and dangerous cocktails, and many funny moments occur. Now mind you I have been decorated with a sequin cowboy hat, a "Bride to Be" sash, a white flowered lei, and a blinking button which reads BACHELORETTE. (Good thing I don't have epilepsy or I would have had a seizure!) A tall slender man approaches me and asks what my first dance song is. I tell him, and he asks me to show him how we will dance. Then he tells me how to show Rob how to dance, to avoid the "high school shuffle." Then he introduces himself as Richard, and his occupation is a choregrapher. Why oh why could I have met him before the third Cosmo ?!?!? It was like old times, being out with the "boys" and having nothing but laughs and cocktails before us. God I love those guys.
In other news, Grammy is not doing well, which is just so bittersweet. Rob and I went to visit her and it was just so hard. She no longer has recognition, even of us, or her great granddaughter. As hard as I am taking it, I think Rob is feeling just as sad. Actually I don't think, I know. She has become his surrogate grammy, and she is just so frail, so sad, so not the woman I grew up with, and certainly a mere shell of her former self. It's such a bittersweet time, for while she is here suffering, she cannot fully share the joy - where even a month ago she still could. So say a prayer that Grammy finds the peace she so deperately seeks.

May 7, 31 days to go

A beautiful Sunday with many tasks completed! The day started with a leisurely breakfast, then off to do errands. It's like we're already married! A quick stop by McKinnon's (if you haven't been there you definitely owe it to yourself.... filet mignons for $6? Come on!) and then on to Lynn to grab a few things. Then on to Target to use one of our shower gifts, a gift card, to get new pillows. :) Then on to the Square One mall to order my wedding band. (Rob already has his which I got in Boston) - the original idea was to get a simple gold band wide enough to cut a V into the top so the chevron cut of the ring would fit into it. Then we were presented with an alternative, a V cut ring with diamonds, because clearly I did not have enough already! (insert sarcastic tone here) :) It fit me just amazingly, did not need to be sized at all... it's like it was meant to be. My god it is so gorgeous. I can't wait to wear it. My engagement ring is at the jewelers having everything tightened up and polished up for the big day. Feels very strange to not have it on my hand. Then it was on to Tewksbury to visit Grammy. We brought her strawberry ice cream and she kept holding Rob's hand and kissed him like 5 times. She just loves him so much. It's so bittersweet for me, and for him as well. After that, we dropped by mom and dad's but they were out so we left a few wedding items there. After that, we did the truly married couples thing and went grocery shopping. Rob's on this wicked yogurt kick! Then back home to relax. A lovely Sunday. Just the beginning of many, I would wager. :) This week we have our final meeting with Reverend Peggy and I have to go over schedules with Jeff, our photographer. What WILL we do to occupy our time after June 10? Stay tuned. :)

In other news..... 35 days today! Seating chart is DONE. RSVP's have all come in (in one way or another!) :) Placecards are nearly done. (That was fun trying to explain to Rob even that it's buffet and not assigned seating why we still had to do placecards...."but why? I don't get it.")Now if we can just get it all organized (my father just keeps asking "What goes to the church? What goes to the hotel?" and moving single items from one box to the other) and maintain our sanity (HA!) we will be fine. We got our passports...DELIGHT!
Had my final dress fitting. I SO can't wait for this day to be here.
